Georgia COVID-19 and Counselor LPC, SW and MFT Requirements
Georgia Coronavirus: Eric Groh’s Current Workshop Policies, 3/14/2020
I understand the urgency during this time and want to ensure your continuing education plans are seamless. I want to be as flexible as possible. *Read this page in it’s entirety*.
How does Georgia’s Composite Board view webinars?
My aim is to reduce worry, clarify confusion and ensure that you can meet your CE requirements to renew your 2020 LPC LCSW or LMFT license. What exactly are webinars? As of this writing 4/4/2020, under rule chapter 135-9, the Georgia Composite Board considers live webinars as online continuing education. However, a state of emergency policy change temporarily allows all CEs including ethics to be obtained online has been signed by the governor. It is effective 4/2/20. When the state of emergency ends, it is possible the rule will default to 135-9. So a temporary policy now supercedes the rule.
For all types of continuing education, when selected for a CE audit by the Board, if the board for any reason rejects CEs it renews the license contingent only after curing the deficiency. Worth noting however, there were times in previous years when the board has accepted live interactive webinars as equal to classroom face-to-face. So the board has struggled with how to deal with the advancing technology of web-based learning.
Ethics Live Webinars for LPC SW and MFT
Immediate Changes to my Workshop Policies
Effectively 3/15/20, my CE workshops will be offered as live webinars.
The workshop policies on this page only apply to Georgia Composite Licensing Board rules enforcement. If you have concerns about whether LPCA will waive CPCS Supervision Face-to-Face Renewal due to COVID-19 policies, address them to lpcaga.org
NASW, NBCC and AAMFT have their own requirements as do other professional associations. Contact those organizations directly for clarification on their COVID-19 policies.
Telemental Health Training
Georgia’s Composite board allows you to obtain your telemental health training electronically. There are no face-to-face training requirements. They are a one-time requirement.
If you are not delivering telemental health, you are not required to complete the training. The board does not enforce business calls to clients as telemental health.
If you are considering doing telemental health therapy (for example, due to the COVID-19 threat), then you are required to complete the training.
NBCC Approved Workshops and Continuing Ed
All of my ethics workshops are approved for all Georgia Composite Board licensees including LPC, SW and MFT through my NBCC ACEP provider #6921. Many states outside of Georgia accept continuing education hours online. Check your state. It is likely my webinars are already approved CEs for your state.
Ticket sales are final, non-refundable and non-transferable. This cancellation policy can also be found on the register and pay page.
